SOPHIA HOUSE: Governmental Approvals
Sophia House is incorporated in the Commonwealth of Virginia. The Internal Revenue Service has granted 501C3 status as a nonprofit corporation. Sophia House is registered with the State Division of Consumer Affairs for the purpose of soliciting contributions in Virginia. The site plan was approved by the Louisa County Planning Commission and Board of Supervisors.
A bill granting Virginia property tax exemption, sponsored by V. Earl Dickinson in the Virginia House of Delegates and R. Edward Houck in the Virginia Senate, was signed by Governor Gilmore on 16 April 1998.
