SOPHIA HOUSE: Other Facilities and Site

Click here to see the Sophia House site plan.

Just a short distance from the main conference center, individuals or couples who wish to leave the frantic pace of day-to-day living will find three accessible retreat cabins available for their "getaway." Guests in the cabins may prepare their own meals in the cabin kitchen; they may share meals in the dining room of the main conference center; or they may request that meals be brought to their cabins.

Within walking distance of the center, an accessible campground will provide accommodations for all of those who love the great outdoors. Special features will assure safety and full mobility. Outdoor recreation is available in great variety. There are interpreted nature trails, a dock at the lake for fishing, a baseball diamond where softball, baseball, and beeper ball can be played, volley ball and tennis courts, and a specially designed fully accessible playground for the child in each of us, where even persons in wheelchairs can swing. Three-wheeled scooters and golf carts will facilitate traveling around the 262 acres. Those who want more exercise can run or jog along the paths or use the exercise trail. Others may just want to sit, and look and listen.

Beaver Creek
Wild life . . . deer, foxes, raccoons, opossums, turkeys, rabbits, and a variety of birds . . . abound in the Sophia House woods, which provide year-round sanctuary to all. Serenity Pond and the wetlands surrounding Beaver Creek give haven to waterfowl, beaver, fish and frogs. The changing seasons bring splashes of gold, red, and green in the mix of evergreen and hardwood trees; butterflies and a variety of wild flowers dot the forest floor.
